AVENUE SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED PI FLEX, EWS & CbM PROJECT AT BSR
Avenue has successfully completed, commissioned, and handed over a project at Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical (BSR), covering the provision of a PI Flex Subscription, technical support services, and the implementation of an Early Warning System (EWS), Condition-based Maintenance (CbM), and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) applications on the AVEVA PI System.
The implementation covered three critical assets:

BSR’S NEED TO LEVERAGE THE PI SYSTEM FOR ADVANCED OPERATIONAL ANALYTICS
BSR aimed to maximize the value of its PI Flex Subscription—the latest licensing model for the PI System—while leveraging the existing capabilities of the AVEVA PI System to establish a structured data foundation and enable analytics for critical equipment.

KEY CHALLENGES
Operational data was distributed across different systems and departments. Engineering teams also approached equipment performance from different technical perspectives, while the project required a unified information platform that could be shared across teams to support decision-making.
The equipment data and asset models therefore needed to be standardized and organized within a consistent structure—not merely for data storage, but also to support effective operational analytics.
AVENUE’S APPROACH
Avenue provided the PI Flex Subscription and technical support services while developing a structured data foundation and asset model on the PI System in accordance with ISO 14224.
The project team has:
- Standardized equipment structures, attributes, and KPIs.
- Developed reusable Asset Templates, KPIs, and analytical building blocks.
- Implemented EWS using both static and adaptive thresholds.
- Developed CbM applications based on equipment condition and operating trends.
- Implemented OEE calculations and dashboards on the PI System.
- Developed first-principles-based KPIs and conducted a machine-learning forecasting pilot.
Avenue also integrated automated email notifications and the creation of Service Requests and Work Orders in IBM Maximo when critical events are detected. This workflow helps shorten response times and improves coordination between operations and maintenance teams.
All components were developed on a common data foundation and asset model, enabling consistent and reusable analytical applications.
RESULTS AFTER GO-LIVE
The Asset Model, KPI Library, dashboards, EWS, CbM, and OEE applications have been handed over and are now operational at BSR.
Following the project, BSR now has:

The automated workflow connecting the PI System with IBM Maximo reduces manual data entry, shortens Work Order creation time, and minimizes errors during information handover.
The value delivered by Avenue extends beyond the functions implemented during the project. BSR now has a structured PI data foundation that can support the continued development of operational applications.
